How can we help?
Everything you need to know about keeping your pet's file in shape β from the first pet to the last export.
Getting started
Create a free account at getpawfile.app/signup with your email. You'll land on the Today screen; add your first pet and everything else follows from there.
A good first session: add the pet, log the vaccines you have paperwork for, add any current medications, then set a feeding plan. You can fill in history (old vet visits, weigh-ins) whenever you have a spare minute.
Adding pets
Tap Add pet (or the + under your pets) and enter a name and species. Everything else is optional and can be filled in later: birthday, breed, sex, microchip number, allergies and conditions, your vet's details, insurance, an emergency contact, a colour accent and a photo (JPEG, PNG or WebP).
Supported species: πΆ Dog, π± Cat, π° Rabbit, π¦ Bird, πΉ Hamster / rodent, π¦ Reptile, π Fish, π΄ Horse, πΎ Other.
The Free plan includes up to 2 pets; Plus and Family allow unlimited pets. Switch between pets from the pet switcher at the top of the app.
Vaccines & due dates
Add a vaccine with the date it was given and when the next dose is due (your vet will tell you, or it's printed on the certificate). You can also note the clinic and batch number. For dogs, cats, rabbits and horses we suggest common vaccine names to save typing.
Every vaccine gets a status chip:
- OK β the next due date is comfortably in the future.
- SOON β due within the next 30 days, time to book the vet.
- OVERDUE β the due date has passed.
When the booster is given, log it as a new entry with its own next due date β the latest entry for each vaccine decides the status.
Medication schedules
Add a medication with its name, dose and a schedule:
- Every day
- Every few days β choose the interval, e.g. every 3 days
- Once a week β pick the day of the week
- Once a month β pick the day of the month
- Only when needed β no fixed schedule; log a dose whenever you give one
Add one or more times of day (for example 08:00 and 20:00). Each scheduled dose appears on the Today checklist at that time. Tap it to mark it given, or mark it skipped if the dose was missed on purpose β both are kept in the medication's history.
Mark a medication βwith foodβ if needed, and set an end date for a course of antibiotics β or leave it open for long-term medication. Missed doses that haven't been ticked show as overdue.
Feeding
Add each food your pet eats with its feeding times. For each one set the type (dry, wet, raw, homemade, treats, other), brand, amount per meal and any notes like βsoak for 10 minutesβ or βno chickenβ.
Meals show up on the Today checklist and on the sitter card, so whoever is feeding knows exactly what to do.
Weight
Log a weigh-in whenever you weigh your pet. Pawfile draws a chart over time, and if you set a target weight (say, one your vet recommended) you'll see it as a line on the chart.
Prefer pounds? Switch between kg and lb in Settings. Your existing entries are converted for display.
Vet visits & documents
Record each visit with the date, reason, clinic, vet, diagnosis, treatment and cost. Add a follow-up date and it will show up in your upcoming list. Attach documents to a visit or straight to the pet's file.
Supported formats: PDF JPG PNG WebP HEIC TXT, up to 15 MB per file. Categories: Lab results, X-ray / imaging, Invoice / receipt, Vaccine certificate, Insurance, Prescription, Other.
Document storage per account:
- Free β 100 MB
- Plus β 5 GB
- Family β 20 GB
Documents are visible only to you and your co-carers. They are never shown on the sitter card.
Reminders
Reminders are for everything that isn't a medication: flea & tick, deworming, grooming, check-up, dental, nail trim, bath, other.
Set a due date and, optionally, a repeat interval in days β for example every 30 days for flea & tick or every 90 days for deworming. When you tick a repeating reminder done, the next one is scheduled automatically.
Today screen & timezone
Today gathers everything for the day across all your pets: medication doses and meals, in time order. Below it you'll see what's overdue and what's coming up over the next weeks β vaccines, reminders and vet follow-ups. Doses that are past their time and not ticked are flagged as overdue.
βTodayβ follows your account timezone, which you can change in Settings. If you travel, update it so doses line up with your local clock.
Pet-sitter card
Each pet has an optional sitter card: a read-only page with feeding times, medications, allergies, and vet & emergency contacts. Turn it on from the pet's page and copy the private link.
- Anyone with the link can view it β no account needed. Share it only with people you trust.
- The card always shows current information from your Pawfile.
- Switch the link off any time; it stops working immediately. Switching it back on creates a brand-new link, so the old one never works again.
- Documents, costs and visit history are never shown on the card. It does show current vaccines and the latest weight.
If you come across a sitter link being misused, please report it.
Co-carers (Family)
On the Family plan you can invite up to 5 co-carers per pet. Create an invite link from the pet's page (it's valid for 7 days) and send it to them; they sign in with their own account and share the same records and Today checklist.
When someone ticks a dose or meal, Pawfile records who did it β so you can see at a glance that Leo already gave the evening pill. The owner can remove a co-carer at any time, and co-carers can leave on their own.
Email digest (Plus)
On Plus and Family, turn on the daily email digest in Settings. Each morning you'll get one email listing what's due today and anything overdue, across all your pets. Turn it off whenever you like.
Printing the health record
From a pet's page choose Print. You'll get a clean, printer-friendly summary with the pet's details, vaccines, current medications, allergies and visit history. Use your browser's print dialog to print or save it as PDF.
Exporting your data
In Settings β Your data, choose Download my data to download all your pets and records as a JSON file. It's available on every plan, any time.
Account & billing
Change your email, password, timezone and weight units in Settings. Upgrade, switch between monthly and yearly, or cancel under Settings β Plan & billing. See pricing for what each plan includes.
You can delete your account from Settings. This permanently removes your pets, records and documents β export first if you want a copy.
